There are approximately 8.000 physiotherapists in Denmark. About 4.800 are public employees of the state, counties and municipalities. They work at hospitals, geriatric centres, aid centres, primary schools, schools of physiotherapy and other educational institutions. More than 1.800 physiotherapists work in private practise. To be associated to the social insurance system an authorization as a physiotherapist is required and membership of the Association of Danish Physiotherapists is necessary. The rest are employed within a variety of production and service companies, The Danish Working Environment Service or The Occupational Health Service. Some work as ergonomics consultants in the public or the private sector.
